Courage.

Compassion.

Commitment.

In partnership with the NFL, the Ed Block Courage Foundation supports abused, neglected, and at-risk youth through a national network of Courage Houses—safe havens of hope and healing.

A History of Courage

SINCE 1978, the Ed Block Courage Award Foundation has been committed to protecting and empowering vulnerable youth.

In collaboration with the NFL, NFLPA, and PFATS, we’ve established a nationwide network of Courage Houses—each paired with an NFL team and dedicated to the long-term well-being of children facing abuse, neglect, and trauma. Together, we fuel life-changing programs, community outreach, and a lasting foundation of support—one team, one house, one child at a time.

The Ed Block
Courage Award

EVERY YEAR, one player from each NFL team is chosen by their teammates to receive the Ed Block Courage Award—an honor reserved for those who overcome adversity and serve their communities with integrity and strength.

These recipients gather in Baltimore to be celebrated—and to connect directly with the youth they inspire. At the heart of the ceremony is a moving exchange: the children of St. Vincent’s Villa, our flagship Courage House, present the awards in a tribute that symbolizes courage shared and hope renewed.

Before we found the Courage House, my son was quiet, withdrawn, and hurting in ways I couldn’t reach. Thanks to the care and support he received  there, he’s found his voice again—and his smile. They didn’t just help him heal—they gave us our family back.

People call us courageous for what we do on the field, but the real courage lives in those kids. They’ve faced more than most of us ever will—and they still show up with hope in their hearts. That’s the kind of strength that inspires me.

By virtue of you coming here and reading this, you are among the compassionate of the world. No higher accolade can be given. Compassion is the soul of all religion. Compassion is the noble way of life, a great guide for the truly noble of heart.”
